The LCSO step and grade pay scale system ensures clear salary advancement throughout a deputy’s career. In this system, each grade comprises 19 steps, with each step representing a pay increase and each grade typically representing a promotion or an increase in responsibility. When the starting salary is increased by a certain percentage, this increase is uniformly applied to each step within the pay scale. As a result, the salary at each step is adjusted by the same percentage, maintaining the relative differences between steps. This uniform adjustment preserves the consistent percentage differences between salaries at different steps, ensuring clear and equitable salary progression for deputies.
